Upward Look: Consider and Hear Me

By Mae Stallard

April 29, 2014

“Consider and hear me, O Lord my God: lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death.” (Psalm 13:3)

The Psalmist David was having problems in his life and he called out to the Lord for help. He felt that the Lord was hiding His face from him, and that his enemy was triumphing over him. His prayer was that the Lord would hear and answer his plea for help. He did not want his enemy to think that he had overcome him and give others cause to rejoice at his trouble.

Have we not all felt this way at some time in our lives? We were experiencing hard times and there did not seem to be help in site. We could not take care of the situation, and like David, we cried out to the only One who could help us. We realized that withut His coming ot our aid, there was no one else to whom we could turn. Like the apostle Peter, we could say, “To whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life.” (John 6:68)

How blessed we are to worship a heavenly Father who loves us in spite of our failures, and one who hears and answers our prayers. He has made known to us that He wants us to bring our requests to Him. He said, “Ask, and it shall be given you.” (Matthew 7:7) That promise should help us to see the love that the Lord has for us who are His children and to trust Him to do as He has said.

We get disturbed at times when we do not receive the answer to the request in the manner that we had hoped. God’s Word tells us that “ye have not, because you ask not” and “Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss.” (James 4:2-3) In other words, we are asking for the wrong thing and in his mercy and wisdom, He gives us what is best for us. May we trust Him to know what answer is best for the petition we bring to the throne of grace. He will always do what is best for us.

Poem:

the Psalmist cried out to the Lord,

And asked Him for needed help,

For he trusted in the Father,

and knew that in His love he was kept.

May we also trust Him,

To give to us that which is best,

For those who depend upon Him,

Will surely be blessed.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, Thank you for answering our prayers in the way that is for our good. In Jesus name we pray. A-men.
