Logan falls in nine to Ripley, then rips Scott 15-0

It was a heartbreaking loss for the Logan High School baseball team on Wednesday night as the Wildcats fell 5-4 in nine innings to Ripley at Logan’s Roger E. Gertz Field.

Logan (12-8) held a 1-0 lead heading into the top of the seventh when Ripley (16-10) plated four runs on five hits.

The Cats then tied it in the bottom of the seventh by scoring three runs and taking the game into extra innings.

The Vikings then tallied one in the top of the ninth and held Logan scoreless in the bottom half of the frame to pick up the win.

Returning to the Logan lineup was all-state catcher Z. Minnick who hurt his hamstring on April 22 in Logan’s 10-0 win at home over Man. He had missed four games. Minnick was 1-for-3 with a long single to the center field wall in the Ripley game.

Josh Rein was 2-for-4 with a triple. Troy Burgess was 2-for-5 at the plate.

Chase Preston and Chase Burnette had one hit each. Burnette also had two RBI.

Tim Saunders was the starting pitcher for Logan. He went seven innings and allowed four runs and five hits. Burgess pitched two innings in relief and was tagged with the loss.

Trevor Tucker had a double and two RBI and Pittenger finished with three hits and a double to lead the Vikings.

The game was played in a steady rain.

Logan was scheduled to travel to Scott on Thursday night. LHS hosts Winfield on Friday at 5 p.m. and Lawrence County (Ky.) on May 7 at 7 p.m.

MADISON — The Logan High School baseball team used a nine-run second inning on Thursday night at Scott as the Wildcats blanked the Skyhawks 15-0 in Madison.

Logan (13-8) was led by junior catcher Z. Minnick who was 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI. Kyle Harvey was 2-for-2 with three RBI, while Josh Rein was 2-for-2 with a double. Alex Toler was also 2-for-2.

Trace Butcher, Brenton Vance and Chase Burnette all had doubles. Burnette also had two RBI.

Zach Hanlon added a hit for the Cats.

Chase Preston pitched the complete game win for Logan. He struck out seven in five innings of work and allowed no runs and just one hit.

Logan outhit Scott 12-1. Each team committed an error.

MADISON — The Chapmanville Regional High School baseball team went to Scott on Tuesday and beat the Skyhawks 10-1.

No further information was made available to The Logan Banner.

The Tigers (18-5) are scheduled to host the Poca Dots on Friday at 6:30 p.m. Chapmanville then hosts Point Pleasant on Saturday at 3 p.m. before going to Mingo Central on May 6. CRHS hosts county rival Man on May 7.
