“For the merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the Lord endureth forever. Praise ye the Lord.” (Psalm 117:2)
As the Psalmist called on all nations and people to praise the Lord, he reminded them why they should do so. It is necessary because His merciful kindness is so great toward His people, and His truth will endure forever.
Is this not a statement that we hear many times in our lives? On many occasions, we hear one person say to another. “The truth will stand when all else fails,” and we believe it to be true. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life, no man cometh unto the Father but by me.” (John 14:6)
Jesus also made known that “Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:32) Also, “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” (vs. 36) How blessed we are to worship a savior who sets us free to be the person He has called us to be. As Christians, we have the freedom to choose to follow the Lord in our country, to seek His will in our lives.
This is not true of those who live in many countries around the world. They are not free to worship whom they choose, and to take a stand for Christ sometimes requires them to give their lives for their profession of faith.
Despite this, many willingly lay down their lives for the sake of Christ. May we pray for those who do not enjoy the freedom that we enjoy, and may we thank God that His truth does endure forever. We can always count on that because God’s word assures us this is true.
God’s truth endures forever,
The Word of God makes known,
And it will still be true,
When all things on earth are gone.
The truth shall make us free,
To be what God would have us be,
For Jesus is the truth,
And will be through eternity.
Dear God, We praise you that truth will endure forever, and we have truth when we have Christ in our lives. In Jesus name we pray. A-men.
