MAN — The Logan High School baseball team went to county rival Man on Thursday night and came away with a 12-0 win over the homestanding Hillbillies at Man’s Dr. Juan Nordello Field.
Logan improved to 18-8 on the season with the win. Man dropped to 14-9.
The Wildcats swept the season series with the Billies as Logan also had an earlier 10-0 win at home.
Chase Preston threw a two-hit shutout while striking out nine to lead Logan.
Brenton Vance went 3-for-3 with a double for Logan, while Z. Minnick was 2-for-2 with a homer and three RBI.
Troy Burgess was 1-for-2 with a homer and three RBI.
Zach Hanlon added a double for the Cats, while Preston and Alex Toler added a bit each.
Braden Griffin had a double and Noah Maynard added a single for Man’s only hits.
Logan plated one run in the first, five in the second and six more in the top of the fourth. The game was stopped after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Both teams are in sectional tournament play next week.
Man has a best-of-three game Class A sectional series with Tug Valley. Logan is set to battle in its three-team Class AAA sectional against Nitro and St. Albans.
