CHAUNCEY — Beth Haven Christian School will be recognizing top honor graduates at a Graduation Ceremony this evening beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the school gymnasium.
Guest speaker will be Joshua Butcher, attorney and president of the Logan Bar Association. Butcher is also a BHCS alumnus.
Leading the 2014 class is valedictorian Presley Anne Holbrook, daughter of Heather Holbrook and the granddaughter of Clark and Anna Dowdy, all of Switzer. Holbrook has a 3.75 GPA and serves as the president of the BHCS Chapter 493 of the American Christian Honor Society.
Holbrook has attended the AACS National Leadership Conference. She served the school yearbook committee and Spanish Club. Through her high school years, Holbrook participated in basketball, archery, and volleyball. She was awarded All Tournament recognition in the WVCEA 2013 volleyball tournament and led the team in the 2012 State Volleyball WVCEA Championship. Holbrook attends Cornerstone Family Fellowship. She has earned the Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College’s Southern Scholarship where she will attend in the fall.
Class Salutatorian is James Frederick Trent, son of Susan Trent of Logan and the late Frederick Lee Trent; he has one brother, Andrew Staton. He is the grandson of Marlene and Richard Curtis and Mary Ann and James Trent.
Trent has a GPA of 3.64. He has attended the AACS National Leadership Conference. Throughout his high school years, he has participated in soccer, basketball, and archery. He has served the yearbook committee, Spanish Club, and the student council as school historian. Trent has been awarded the Vesta Varney Bible Knowledge Award for three consecutive years. Trent has achieved the Promise Scholarship from the office of W.Va. Governor Earl Ray Tomblin. He plans to attend Concord University in the fall to pursue a degree in education and social science.
Billie Bailey will be the class Honorarian. She is the daughter of Katie and Leonard Maynard and Bill Bailey of Delbarton. She is the granddaughter of Ronald and Toney Runyon, Bill and Charlene Bailey, and Patricia and the late Harmon Maynard. She has a 3.40 GPA and has attended the AACS National Leadership Conference. Bailey has served her senior year as BHCS student body president and has been active in track, archery and volleyball. She led her team in the 2012 WVCEA State Volleyball Championship. Bailey has served BHCS as Praise and Worship Leader, yearbook committee, and Spanish Club. Billie won second place in the WVCEA Fine Arts competition in Dramatic Interpretation earning her a scholarship to Appalachian Bible College. She is a member of the Victory Christian Center where she is involved in leading the youth praise team.
