The Mountain State Wheelers Bicycle Club is sponsoring a “Ride of Silence” in Charleston today in honor of bicyclists around the country who have been killed while riding their bikes.

The ride will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the State Capitol.

Over the past six years of available data in W.Va., the state has seen seven biking deaths; there have been 4114 nationally.

Those interested in participating in the ride are asked to gather at the Capitol Complex on the plaza by the war memorial for a few words of remembrance. The ride will begin promptly at 7 p.m.

Participating cyclists will ride down Kanawha Boulevard in a double column, turn at the parking lot just before Patrick Street and return to the Capitol via the Boulevard.

Communication will be by hand signals only. Traffic control will be provided by the Charleston Police Bicycle Patrol.

All riders must wear a helmet.
