LHS seniors to graduate Friday

LOGAN— More than 170 seniors will receive high school diplomas Friday afternoon at Logan High School.


The 2014 LHS Valedictorian is McGinnis Lee Dalton, the son of Sammy and Karen Dalton of Logan.


Dalton has received numerous awards and honors during his time at Logan High School. He has been named the U.S. Attorney General’s Ambassador for Justice, attended the Governor’s Honors Academy and was named to the Governor’s School Advisory Council, Treasurer of the National Honor Society, Senior Class President, Sophomore Class Historian, and Freshmen Class President.


He was awarded The Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award, The Ronald Reagan Student Leader Award for two consecutive years, 2nd place in French 2 at the Marshall University SCORES Academic Festival, 1st Place in the 2013 Scottish Rite of Freemasonry American Essay Contest and he was the school winner of the Poetry Out Loud Contest.


Dalton has served on Student Council, Math Field Day, Academic Challenge, Spanish Club, French Club, Homecoming Float Committee, Yearbook Staff, Library Assistant and he was cast in the dual role of Grimsby and Scuttle in the Logan County Schools Theater Company Production of The Little Mermaid.


He has won class awards in Honors Algebra 1, Honors Algebra 2, Honors English 9, AP English Language, Spanish, French, Health, Advanced Chemistry, Calculus and Contemporary Studies.


Dalton has been awarded one of the eight prestigious and highly competitive, full-ride Yeager Scholarships to Marshall University where he plans to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Theatre.


LHS will hold their graduation ceremony at 7 p.m. Friday. Shuttle buses will make stops at the new state building, the Logan Banner and in front of Peeble’s Department Store beginning at 5:30 p.m. Buses will also run after the ceremony.
