At Tuesday’s County Commission meeting, the Kiwanis Club of Logan was given $1,000 to help fund their annual Bicycle Rodeo.

Last year, members of the Kiwanis saw more than one hundred kids show up for the bike rodeo in August where they received free safety helmets, bicycle checks and hot dogs.

Kiwanis members Roger Ramey and Jim Mullins attended the meeting on behalf of the club.

“Our cost for the event is around $2,500 annually,” said Ramey. “We have fundraisers, such as the pancake sale, to raise money, but we can’t cover the entire cost on our own.”

Ramey said last year’s event was a huge success; they drew names for 25 children to receive bicycles and every kid in attendance was given a safety helmet. At this year’s rodeo, they are hoping to distribute more bicycles than last year.

“There’s nothing like seeing a kid smiling after they win something like a new bicycle,” said Commission President Danny Godby.

The Bicycle Rodeo will be held in the FountainPlace area on Sat., June 28.
