Area teams still alive in Coach Pitch tourney

MAN — Only four teams will advance to the District 2 Coach Pitch 7-8-year-old Little League All-Star tournament semifinals.

Heading into Wednesday night’s action, six teams were vying for those four spots.

In Pool B, Madison (2-0) and Welch (2-1) have already clinched spots in Friday night’s Final Four round. Mullens (1-2) and Sandy River (0-2) have been eliminated.

In Pool A, Man (2-0), Tug Valley (2-1), Chapmanville (1-1) and Pineville (2-2) are still alive. Delbarton (0-3) has already been eliminated.

Wednesday night’s games had winless Delbarton playing Chapmanville and unbeaten Man taking on Tug Valley at Man’s Tommy Keffer Field.

Round robin play ends on Thursday as Madison takes on Sandy River at 6 p.m. and host Man battles with Chapmanville at 8.

Friday’s semifinals are set for 6 and 8 with the two winners moving on to play in Saturday’s District 2 championship game, set for 7 p.m. at Man.

In Monday night’s games, Pineville handed Chapmanville its first loss with a 23-22 decision in seven innings. Tug Valley toppled Delbarton, 18-7, in the nightcap.

Tuesday’s games had Pineville beating Delbarton 13-3 and Welch knocking off Mullens 25-8.

Tug Valley easily defeated Delbarton in Monday’s game, leading 6-0 after one inning, 11-0 after two, 13-2 after three and 18-7 after four.

The game was then called due to the mercy rule.

Conner Lackey, Isaac Deskins and Elijah Fluty were all 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Tug Valley. Lackey had a triple and an inside-the-park home run. Deskins hammered out a triple. Fluty ripped two doubles.

Julian Vance was 2-for-2, while Zach Hall was 3-for-4 with a triple for TV.

Parker Watts was 2-for-2 with a homer, while Ethan Ferrell was 2-for-2 with a double.

Luke Williamson went 3-for-3 with a double and a triple. Matt Hatfield was 2-for-2 with two homers. Kaleb Tomblin and Adam Slone each had a single.

For Delbarton, Willie Hall went 2-for-3 with a double. Malaki Sheppard and C.J. Ferguson were each 2-for-3 at the plate with two singles.

Kaleb Dempsey was 2-for-2 with a single and a double. Ryder Eaton went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles for Delbarton.

No statistics were available on any of the other games.

* In Wednesday’s action in the 7-8-year-0ld tournament, Chapmanville beat Delbarton 16-11. Man downed Tug Valley, 14-6.
