West Virginia University Extension Service officially has a new fiscal agent as of June 30. A fiscal agent is an organization that acts on behalf of another party performing various financial duties, such as assisting in the redemption of bonds or coupons, handling tax issues, replacing lost or damaged securities and performing various other finance-related tasks.
WVU Extension Service’s previous fiscal agent was the Logan County Adult 4-H program. Although the auditors came and assessed the 4-H program and found nothing wrong, the university is urging all Extension Services around the state to change their fiscal agents to what is categorized as local agents.
Farley said he chose the Commission as the new, potential fiscal agent because WVU Extension Service has a great relationship with them.
Farley is the WVU Extension Agent for Logan County. He serves as the County Program Coordinator and the 4-H Youth Development Agent. Jeremy works with both youth and adult volunteers. He also works with county and state officials to coordinate resources for WVU Extension Service programs.
The WVU Extension Service provides community programs in throughout the state with support from West Virginia University faculty and staff. WVU also maintains a historic special-mission campus at WVU Jackson’s Mill Center for Lifelong Learning and State 4-H Camp, near Weston, West Virginia.
Logan’s Extension Office provides aid to farmers, gardeners and homeowners, but also local educational programs for area families and youth, businesses, and communities.
During the meeting, Farley also thanked the Commission for their support of the 4-H Youth Development.
Camp just ended and Farley says it was one of the most successful camps that he has been involved with.
“We teach some of these kids how to fish for the first time,” Farley said. “That’s something they can take home and use.”
The campers made a thank you card for the commissioners. President Danny Godby said that the card will hang on the wall in the meeting room.
