MATEWAN – The Mingo County Sheriff’s Department has released the names of a father and daughter who died Friday night in a traffic crash in the Matewan area.

Sheriff’s deputies identified the dead as Sid and Amanda Norman, who were killed in an accident that occurred on a mountain at Blackberry City near Matewan. Police were unaware that the wreck occurred until Johnny Gooslin, one of the two people who survived the wreck, was able to crawl away from the wreck site and seek help early Saturday.

Although Gooslin was badly injured in the wreck, he was able to crawl three miles off the mountain to report the incident to authorities.

According to deputies, the accident occurred when Norman’s Geo Tracker crashed after an ATV trail gave way and sent the vehicle down a steep 150-foot embankment.

The fourth passenger, Scott Maynard, is currently hospitalized in critical condition, authorities said.

Amanda Norman reportedly was the mother of two children, a boy and a girl.
