CHIEF LOGAN STATE PARK — It's a busy time of the year for Roger Bryant.

On top of Bryant’s regular emergency services job, he has been working hard on the annual Aunt Jennie Wilson Music Festival named in honor of his grandmother, with whom he used to perform.

Wilson was an internationally-known folk artist who was born in what is now Chief Logan State Park where the event honoring her memory is held.

The concert is held annually at the Liz Spurlock Amphitheater and is sponsored by The West Virginia Division of Culture and History, The Museum In The Park and the Logan County Commission.

Bryant, who is the event coordinator, has been contacting other musicians, making arrangements with the park and local officials and trying to get the word out about the event where Appalachian music and culture take the center stage.

"We have been working hard on this event to make it better than ever," Bryant said. “A lot of people put their everything into this and we feel it is worth the effort.”

Bryant said this year’s list of artists and performers will be bigger and better than ever when the festival returns to Chief Logan State park for two days at the Liz Spurlock Amphitheater. The festival will include returning favorites including Bryant, himself; The Stewarts; The Earl of Elkview; Street Players; Glen Simpson; Daddy Rabbit Band; Dick Taylor Band; The Samples Brothers; Robert Shaffer and the Pour House Band; Elaine Purkey and The Friendly Neighbor Show and The Seekers.

"We are very excited to announce also this time we will have appearing some great newcomers like Jeff Ellis, The Sandy Cyfers Band and Retro and Smiling," Bryant said.

The festival begins on Saturday September 4 at 4 p.m. and continues on Sunday, September 5, at 1 p.m.
