GLEN DANIEL - Sherman High jumped out to a 15-point lead in the first half and nearly let Liberty High come back to win the game as the Tide held on to win, 57-54, on Jan. 26.

Sherman Coach Dave Henderson felt that it was a good lesson for his squad.

"It was the tale of two halves," he said."We came out and played one of our best halves of the season. Running the floor, being the aggressor on the glass, winning the 50/50 balls and hitting shots. We come out in the third (period) in cruise control and let them chip away and allow their crowd to get into the game."

The Tide's double-digit lead was erased in the final frame when the Raiders tied the contest at 45-45.

"From there on out it was a dog fight," Henderson said. "Luckily we have been in that situation numerous times this year and made a couple more shots than them down the stretch."

Eric Maloskey hit key shots down the stretch that helped the Tide secure the win, but it was two big free throws from Christian Thompson in the final seconds that sealed the victory for the maroon and gold.

Eric Maloskey held the hot hand for Sherman on this night. The senior sharp-shooter hit key buckets down the stretch and found open teammates on drives to the basket. Maloskey and fellow guard Will Hensley have found their mid-season stride for the Tide, while sophomore wing-man Chris Abbott has proven to be a legitimate 3-point shooting threat for opponents to contend with. Abbott and Austin Cooper have also shown that the duo are among the Tide's best defenders.

"Eric played really well for us," he said. "Almost every time he had the ball in his hands something good happened for us. (Austin) Cooper played solid defensively and did a good job handling their pressure."

Sherman will be adding the services of wing-player Hunter Breeden in the coming days as he has missed most of the season with a broken hand. Breeden will prove to be another weapon for Sherman in the paint.

Sherman scoring - Eric Maloskey led Sherman with 24 points and three 3-point goals, Will Hensley had 17 points and three 3-point goals, Christian Thompson had 5 points and one 3-point goal, Austin Cooper had 5 points, Chris Abbott scored 4 and Josh Christian had 2.

The Tide (5-5) defeated Man (4-6), 80-69 on Jan. 30. Sherman will next play at Williamstown on Feb. 7.
