CHAPMANVILLE — The Chapmanville Regional High School softball team rebounded nicely over the weekend in its own Lady Tigers Invitational Tournament.

Chapmanville scored an exciting come-from-behind 3-2 win over Pikeview on Saturday afternoon, then roared past Richwood 12-0 in three innings on Saturday evening at Chapmanville Regional’s Ronnie Ooten Field.

With the wins, the Lady Tigers now stand at 6-3 on the season.

Chapmanville had opened tournament play last Friday with an 11-2 blowout loss at the hands of James Monroe.

The Lady Tigers then started out slowly in Saturday’s Pikeview game and with another possible loss were staring at a 4-4 record.

Chapmanville then rallied.

Down 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning and down to its last out the Lady Tigers’ backs were against the wall.

One more out and Chapmanville was toast.

Chapmanville senior second baseman Lauryn Easterling, however, got it started with a sharply-hit single to left field to keep the Lady Tigers alive.

Catcher Savannah Wiley then stepped up and ripped a double which bounced to the left centerfield fence, scoring Easterling all the way from first base as the Lady Tigers tied it up 2-2.

Then with Wiley standing on second base and only 120 feet away from home plate, third baseman Samarah Hurst delivered the game-winning single to left as the ball just got past Pikeview third-sacker Audrey Higgins and into the outfield. Wiley scored and Chapmanville won 3-2 in dramatic fashion.

Hurst had a big day at the plate for the Lady Tigers as she was 3-for-4 with a double and the game-winning hit.

Pitcher Cydnee Lambert was 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and an RBI. She also pitched the complete game win within the circle as she hurled seven innings and allowed two runs on six hits with 11 strikeouts and two walks.

Sam Meadows was the tough luck loser on the mound for Pikeview. She went 6.2 innings and allowed three runs on eight hits with five strikeouts and no walks.

Chapmanville DH Faith Bell added a hit for Chapmanville. Hope Kirk had a sacrifice bunt.

Kristen Worrell led the Panthers as she was 2-for-3. Kristen Brinkley drove in two runs with an RBI single to center in the top of the sixth inning which put Pikeview ahead 2-1.

The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Shian Meeks led off by reaching base safely on a two-base error and eventually scored on Lambert’s RBI single. Kirk put Meeks at third with a successful sacrifice bunt.

Chapmanville threatened in the second and fifth innings by putting two runners on but failed to score.

In the bottom of the sixth down 2-1, the Lady Tigers had the bases loaded and two outs but Meeks hit into a fielder’s choice play on a grounder to third.

Pikeview committed four errors in the game. CRHS didn’t have any.

Then in the second game on Saturday, Chapmanville blanked Richwood 12-0 as Bell, a freshman pitcher, fired a three-inning no-hitter. Bell walked one and fanned three.

Meeks was 2-for-2 with a two-run homer, a double and four RBI to lead CRHS. Lambert was 2-for-2 with a double and one RBI.

A total of 18 games were played in the Lady Tigers Invitational on Saturday at Ronnie Ooten Field and the two Chapmanville Middle School diamonds.

Logan went 2-0 on Saturday and 3-0 in the tournament as the undefeated Lady Cats beat James Monroe (9-0) and Sissonville (5-0).

Also on Saturday, Sherman downed Buffalo 3-1 and lost 10-2 to Ritchie County.

Ritchie County also won 9-1 over Richwood.

Sherman stands at 6-2 on the season. Hayley Buzzard and Paige Halstead each doubled and drove in a run for the Tide in the win over Buffalo.

Becca Sullivan went 3-for-4 with five RBIs for Ritchie County (6-1) in the win over Sherman.

Scott was also victorious on Saturday with an 8-6 win over James Monroe.

Chapmanville was scheduled to play at two-time defending Class AA state champion Wayne on Monday.

The Lady Tigers host Scott on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., then go to Poca on Thursday before hosting Sherman on Friday.
