HAZARD – The murder trial set for a Perry County man was cancelled last week while defense attorneys seek to determine his competency to stand trial.
Adrian Banks, 45, remains incarcerated at the correctional complex in La Grange, Ky., after an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in September 2012 left him requiring additional care. Police say he shot himself after he was indicted for murder in connection with the stabbing death of Jerry Combs on Aug. 4, 2012, at a residence in the Allais community.
Banks has pleaded not guilty to the charge, and was set to go on trial later this year. But according to Commonwealth's Attorney John Hansen, the trial was cancelled and a hearing set so Banks's competency can be determined.
No new trial has been scheduled, through a hearing in the case is set for Nov. 7.
