Construction on the Madison Creek Causeway is nearing completion and plans are being made to get school children picked up for school.

The Madison Creek area has endured hardships associated with the construction of the new W.Va. Route 10, having been isolated by about fifteen slides that have blocked their access road. Back in December, some of the residents evacuated the area for about two weeks until the access road was cleared.

At that time, W.Va. Department of Transportation officials announced they would be constructing a causeway temporary bridge, which has been under construction for the past couple of weeks. Carrie Bly, W.Va. Department of Transportation Communications Specialist says the construction is nearly complete.

“The rocks and drains are finished and they expect to have the causeway completed by the end of this week. It may be ready for traffic by Monday.”

Bly went on to say officials had met with school system representatives to discuss school bus access to the area.

Mark Adkins, Director of Transportation for Logan County Schools, said they will continue to run the buses as usual and expect to use the causeway once it is open.

“We have talked to the state road representatives and there was a question of whether or not a school bus would be able to make the turns. We took a bus up there today and the turn is tight, but an experienced driver can do it. Our intention is to make our regular run up there. The people at Madison Creek have been through a lot and we are going to make it as easy as possible for them. We want to take care of them and this will be one thing they won’t have to worry about. We will be exploring options and may add an extra run if it is necessary,” said Adkins.

Another update and photos are expected within the next couple of days.
