Herbert Farley, 37 of Chapmanville, was arrested by the West Virginia State Police on May 16 for after being charged with malicious wounding.


On May 16, Trooper Jennings received a call from the WVSP Communications advising him that a 17-year-old victim had been stabbed in Harts and had been transported to Logan Regional Medical Center for evaluation.


When Jennings arrived at LRMC, he found the victim and obtained a written statement describing what had allegedly happened:


The victim went to a residence in White Oak to pick up his girlfriend. While he was there, he got into a verbal altercation with Farley because his girlfriend was at Farley’s residence. The victim claims that Farley pulled out a knife and chased him to his vehicle. When the victim tried to leave, Farley allegedly reached into the vehicle. The victim says he threw his hand up to block the blade when the knife cut him across the hand.


Farley’s bail is set for $10,000.

  • James Erick Hutchinson, 30 of Big Creek, and his step-father, Obie Ray Cheuvront, of Chapmanville, were arrested by the WVSP on May 17. Hutchinson was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and transferring stolen property; Cheuvront was charged with receiving/transferring stolen property.


On May 17, Trooper J. E. Garren was advised by the Logan Co. 911 of a stolen pickup truck travelling Northbound on US 119. While en route on Old Logan Road, Garren reports that he saw the vehicle and made contact with the driver, who has been identified as Hutchinson. Garren allegedly placed Hutchinson in handcuffs for personal safety.


Garren then requested a registration query through the WVSP dispatch and was reportedly advised that the truck was registered in the NCIC as stolen.


Further investigation revealed that Hutchinson and Cheuvront had previously worked together and sold property worth approximately $20,000 which was stolen in a Breaking and Entering in Parkersburg.


Hutchinson’s bail is set for $20,000, and Cheuvront’s bail is set for $10,000.

  • Kayla Frye, 23 of Holden, was arrested by the WVSP on May 16. She was arrested after a warrant was issued in Feb. for five charges of fraudulent use of an access device.


On April 4, Trooper R. L. Jennings was advised by the victim that Frye had stolen his credit card number, and that she had allegedly used his credit card for several purchases online, and that his bank account had overdrawn because of Frye’s actions.


Furthermore, the victim reportedly told Jennings that Frye had stolen his credit card before.


Jennings then obtained the bank statements from the victim and who claims the funds taken from his account on Feb. 12, March 6, 7 and 10 and April 4 were not purchases he had made.


Frye’s bail is set for $10,000.
