City of Logan firefighters responded to a call at 6:19 Wednesday morning for a structure fire in Peach Creek to what ended up being an obvious arson and possible attempted murder.
When they arrived at the location, they noticed that the fire was gravitating toward the rear of the house.
“We got there and did a search,” Scott Beckett, Logan Fire Chief said. “The family wasn’t in the house at that time, but the family pets were. We were able to get them all out and put the fire out.”
After investigating, firefighters concluded that the cause of the fire was arson. Someone went to the back of the house and sprayed a gallon of gasoline on the back entrance. Beckett said that the family did not have smoke detectors in their house, but they were awoken after the gasoline was lit and exploded.
Investigations are ongoing within the W.Va. State Fire Marshall and W.Va. State Police offices.
“After we saw what was going on, we contacted the West Virginia State Police,” Beckett said. “There are three troopers and the state fire marshal on the case.”
Beckett urges anyone with information to call the Logan Detachment of the WVSP at 304-792-7200 or the fire marshal at 1-800-233-FIRE. Calls can remain anonymous.
