Plans for the proposed Logan Central City Pedestrian Bridge took another important step Monday, as a mandatory pre-bid meeting was held at the site of the new bridge.

Representatives from nine contracting companies — along with officials from the City of Logan, E.L. Robinson Engineering Co. and the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) — met to discuss the bidding process for the bridge. Among those in attendance was Mayor Serafino Nolletti, City Clerk Amber Viars, Rebecca A. Davison, WVDOH Transportation Alternatives Program Manager, Tim Sedosky, the Environmental Planning Manager for the Planning Division of the WVDOH and following representatives from the design consultant: Faheem Ahmad, Tim Cart and Randall Lackey of E. L. Robinson Engineering Co.

The project started two years ago under the administration of Nolletti. Viars is the grant facilitator on the project and has worked on increased funding for the new structure as well as assistance from the Logan County Commission and Logan County Board of Education.

The project started as a cosmetic and structure “facelift,” but soon became a total structure replacement. The new bridge will be a prefabricated state-of-the-art design. It will consist of blue beams to coordinate with Logan school colors.

Contractors will now have until June 17 at 2 p.m. to submit their sealed bids for the demolition of the existing bridge and the construction of the new three span pedestrian bridge. The plans and contracts for the bridge may now be examined at one of four locations; 219 Dingess St. Logan, WV 25601, at the Contractors Association of WV in Charleston, the F.W. Dodge Co. in St. Albans, or at E.L. Robinson Engineering Co. in Charleston, WV. Copies of the Plans and Contract Documents may be obtained from the office of the Engineer, E. L. Robinson Engineering Co.; 5088 Washington Street, West; Cross Lanes, West Virginia, 25313; upon a nonrefundable payment of $150.00 for each set of documents.

A five percent bid bond or certified cashier’s check must accompany all bids. The successful bidder will be required to furnish a satisfactory payment bond and performance bond, each for 100 percent of the contract amount. The sealed bids will be opened and read to the public at 2 p.m. on June 17.

The project is funded under the 2011 Transportation Enhancement (TE) Grant Program.
