America: land of the free, home of the brave. And today, she celebrates her 238 birthday on the Fourth of July. There is much to be thankful for in the land of the free, and the folks in Logan County are some of the most thankful people around. Below, many Logan Countians reflect on what the Fourth of July really means to them:

• Joyce Hoyton – Having picnics with friends and family.

• Deeanna Briggs—Celebrating freedom and the independence our forefathers fought for, for years… as they’re still doing today.

• Pam Blair—It makes me think about my pappaw who was in a war.

• Leonard Codispotti— It’s a time to honor our veterans. I also like the watermelon.

• Shawn Evans—It makes me think of my son. He’s active duty Army and stationed in California. He’s my only kid and he’s been gone since February. I’m really going to miss him on the Fourth this year.

• Pam Brown—I’m really thankful for freedom of religion.

• Neal Dingess—It’s a time to celebrate the freedom for all Americans. It’s the way we celebrate our freedom… and a celebration for the vets.

• Patricia Hicks—We gather together with friends and family, and we really enjoy it. And we love coming to the Freedom Festival. But mainly family… We get to spend time with our family. They all come in and join us, and we love it.

• Brian Privett and Nikki Hicks—Fireworks!

• Johnathan Thornsbury—Food and fireworks.

• Wayne McDonald—I like to celebrate the freedom of our country.

• Martha Sparks—Since I started working at the Banner 14 years ago, the Fourth of July means freedom of the press to me. And a celebration of living in a country where we can live the lives we want to live, not the lives someone tells us we have to live.

• Vicki Perry—Watching the fireworks.

No matter what the Fourth of July means to you, take a moment during this holiday to honor and remember the brave men and women who have served our nation in times of war and peace so that we may enjoy liberty.
