CHAPMANVILLE — It’s been a great first season so far for Chapmanville Regional High School’s Josh Butcher.

Butcher, a 6-foot junior guard for the Tigers, is third in the Cardinal Conference in scoring at 15.6 points per game.

Through 17 games, Butcher, a Riverside High School transfer, had scored 265 points.

Mingo Central’s 6-7 Dikembe Dixson, a late addition to the team and a transfer from Kentucky, currently leads the league in scoring at 17.3 points per contest. Dixson has played four games for the Miners.

Dixson’s Mingo Central teammate, Alex Lee, is second in the conference at 15.7 points per game.

Elijah Cuffee of Poca and Tyler Stroud of Tolsia are tied for fourth in the league at 14.9 points a contest.

Noah Frampton of Poca (14.8) is sixth, Matt Chandler of Poca (14.6) is seventh, Grant Ferguson of Wayne (14.4) is eighth, Matt Justice of Herbert Hoover (13.3) is ninth and Kaleb Sturgell of Tolsia (12.3) is 1oth.

Chapmanville’s Kenny Plumley, at 12.1 points per game, is 11th in the Cardinal in scoring.

Butcher had been the league’s top scorer but Poca held Butcher to only five points on 2-for-10 shooting in Tuesday night’s 68-35 win by the homestanding Dots over the Tigers.

Chapmanville was scheduled to play at Tolsia on Friday night but the game was cancelled due to weather and moved to Saturday night.

The Tigers then go to Wayne on Feb. 21, to Sissonville on Feb. 22 and then to Man on Feb. 25 in the regular season finale.

Chapmanville, ranked No. 8 in the state this week in Class AA, is currently third place in the Cardinal Conference at 12-5 overall and 7-4 in the league.

No. 2-ranked Poca is first at 15-1, 10-0. Scott is second at 11-5, 9-3.
