WILLIAMSON — This year’s National Day of Prayer observance in Mingo County is set for noon on May 1, according to the county coordinator.

Pastor D. Mitchell Bias of the Regional Church in Delbarton, Mingo County’s coordinator, said the observance will be held at the Williamson Field House.

This is a new location for the event, which traditionally has been held in the circuit courtroom at the courthouse in Williamson. However, Bias said, a trial is scheduled to be held in the courtroom on that date and organizers were concerned that a conflict in scheduling might arise. Since a church conference is set for that time frame at the fieldhouse, Bias said the logical step was to move the county observance to that location.

“A revival awakening” will be the theme, the pastor said.

Mingo County’s National Day of Prayer ceremonies are part of similar activities held across the United States each year. The national observance will be held at the Cannon House Office Building in Washington, D.C. It is scheduled to be telecast live from 9 a.m. to noon. The National Day of Prayer Task Force has partnered with GOD TV to broadcast the event. It can be seen on DirecTV channel 365 and streamed live on the Internet.

The Washington observance will be hosted by U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt of Alabama’s Fourth Congressional District.

Speakers in Washington will include Ann Graham Lotz, daughter of the Rev. Billy Graham; Dr. James and Shirley Dobson; Congressman Mike McIntyre, Chaplain Father Patrick Conroy and R. Dick Eastman.

The stated goal of the National Day of Prayer Task Force is to mobilize prayer in America and to encourage personal repentance and righteousness in the culture.
