Editor,

God is coming to Chief Logan State Park! The Aracoma Story, Inc., will present Children of Eden June 17th through July 6th in the beautiful Liz Spurlock Ampitheater. The musical is based on the first nine Books of Genesis contained within The Holy Bible.

It is both an honor and a privilege to serve as Music Director for this wonderful show. I was a young teacher in my twenties when I first participated in a TAS summer season. Liz Spurlock graciously brought me into the fold and I learned all aspects of theater production. Little did I know that I would later devote a large portion of my career to teaching theater performance and appreciation at the public school level.

The lessons I learned from TAS served me well. So many Logan Countians have benefited from participating in and attending TAS productions for nearly forty years. Indeed, many have gone on to make theater a lifelong pursuit. The Aracoma Story, Inc. is truly the foundation of the performance arts in Southern West Virginia.

The cast is broad, ranging from young children to seasoned veterans. It is particularly gratifying to see so many new young faces, undoubtedly a result of the strong vocal music and theater programs within Logan County Schools and the Appalachian Children’s Chorus Cantare. It is indeed exciting to see these as well as new, fledgling community theater programs active in the coalfields. I want to sincerely thank The Aracoma Story, Inc. Board of Directors for this incredible opportunity. Indeed, everyone active in Logan County performance arts should take a moment to thank TAS for we ALL got our start there.
