PARKERSBURG - The W. Va. Secondary School Activities Commission playoff ratings were released for the first time on Tuesday.

The ranking are not released until after the third week of the season.

The 2013 debut has Mingo Central (2-1) at No. 15 in Class 2A and Tug Valley (2-1) at No. 15 in Class 1A.

At the top of the rankings you will see some of the perennial powers in each of the three classes.

Huntington High School will enter the week as the top-ranked team in Class AAA today, followed by George Washington, Cabell Midland, three-time defending state champion Martinsburg and University of Morgantown. Logan (3-0) is ranked No.11 in the SSAC poll after the first three weeks.

In Class 2A, Fairmont Senior sits atop the poll, while Sissonville, a Cardinal Conference team, comes in at No. 2. Ravenswood is No. 3, while Wyoming East and Summers County are tied for 4th.

Other regional teams in the top 16 are River View and Wayne tied for No. 7, while Chapmanville is at No. 10.

In the state’s smallest class is Greenbrier West is No. 1, followed by St. Marys, Williamstown, East Hardy, Madonna and Notre Dame. Man (2-1)is ranked no. 12 in the first poll.

At the end of November, each team wants to finish in the top 16 to make the Mountain State playoffs. It is even better to end up in the top eight, so you can host a playoff game in the first round.

Then the higher a team is ranked, they can play every game at home as long as they keep winning until the state championships, which are played in Wheeling.
