If you didn’t make it out to Lefty Hamilton Park this past Saturday night – you missed out on a lot of fun and excitement.

Gridiron Alumni sponsored another local alumni football game between former Williamson Wolfpack grads and some who played for the Burch Bulldogs.

It was a standing room only crowd of fans wearing maroon and white and blue and white. It was like the good old days.

There were wives, kids, parents, grandparents and just fans from both schools that packed the old wooden bleachers of the historic field.

I was lucky enough to be a part of it – having graduated from Williamson High School, it was fun to see so many former players I knew from both schools. Having covered sports over the years – I also knew many of the players and coaches from Burch.

I’m not going to mention names, because I know I’ll leave someone out. Each squad had about 30 players.

There were a couple of scuffles, but the refs and coaches were able to break them up before anything escalated. After all, it was all about having fun and letting guys put on the pads and strap up the helmets one more time.

In the end, the Wolfpack had a little more speed and pulled away 32-0.

But, there was some hard –hitting from both teams. I’m sure on Sunday there were a lot of men nursing injuries. Ice packs, muscle rub and Tylenol sales went up. There are still guys with bruises, abrasions, aches and pains today.

However, I’m sure if you ask them - they would say it was worth it.

Reports say his final choices were between Michigan and Clemson. He has chosen the Tigers of Clemson. The 6-foot-7, 200-pound small forward was the state’s player of the year in 2013.

In addition to WVU, Miami and Xavier have offered and Michigan and Michigan State are in on him as well. Ahmad is a 6-7, 222-pound forward. One report said he was in the Da’Sean Butler mold.
