Many residents of the area remembered a cherished child on his birthday Tues., March 18, with balloon releases.

Joshual Gabriel “Gabe” Lyall, the son of Josh and Erina Lyall of Man, would have been five years old on March 18. Gabe lost his battle with cancer on November 9, 2013.

Gabe, along with his parents, were often seen around the area doing volunteer work prior to his illness, and the family continued to share Gabe’s presence with residents during his battle.

One Logan resident, Michael Esposito, who had never met the Lyall family, said he followed Gabe through news stories.

“I had followed the news reports telling us of about Gabe’s courageous efforts,” Esposito said. “I was touched by his childhood innocence and by his mother and father’s love and devotion.”

Esposito penned a poem about Gabe a few days after his passing:

Always Forever Gabe

His name is Joshua

Like God’s servant

His name is Gabriel

Like God’s angel

Mother’s baby always

Father’s buddy forever

Our super hero

God’s precious child

Touched by his smile

Inspired by his spirit

We were warmed by the light

Of Gabe’s faith, hope and love

Four and two-thirds years

Fifty-six months

Here on Earth with us

Forever in Heaven with God

“Gabe’s life reminds me of something I read long ago… “All who have been touched by beauty are touched by sorrow at its passing,’” Esposito said.
