CROOKED CREEK — The Gleaners Class of the Crooked Creek Church of Christ met in the fellowship hall March 11, 2014, for their monthly meeting.

Hostesses for the meeting were Donna Miller and Evelyn Adams.

The tables were decorated in a Mardi Gras theme by Donna and Tia Miller. The ladies enjoyed pizza, salad, green dipped strawberries and an ice cream dessert. Prayer for the meeting and food was offered by Debby Hall.

President, Brenda Adams conducted the meeting. The minutes from the February meeting was read by secretary, Karen Dingess. Peggy Farmer made the motion that the minutes were correct as read and Shirley Ruggles seconded the motion. The financial report was given by Ruggles and offering was taken up.

Miller provided a devotion on “Being Happy”. She quoted from The14th Amendment of the Declaration of Independence on how we have the right to “pursue happiness”. This doesn’t guarantee the right to happiness but only the right to pursue what makes you happy. She told the ladies that a lot of people pursue happiness with possessions and success but this is the way the world views happiness. She explained that Jesus’ view of happiness is different than the worlds. She quoted from the beatitudes found in Matthew 5 and told how “blessed” is translated “happy”. She explained that happiness is not self-centered. She used various scriptures to explain to the ladies that sharing with others, doing what is right, being honest, praying and loving our neighbor as ourselves are what makes God happy.

Miller used a quote from Benjamin Franklin, “The US Constitution doesn’t guarantee happiness, only the pursuit of it. You have to catch up with it yourself.” She ended by reading the words from the song “Happiness is the Lord.”

The class will collect boxes of instant mashed potatoes for Suffer the Children Ministries during the month of March. Ruggles reported on finding a high chair at Walmart.com for the fellowship hall.

The ladies agreed to have a carry-in dinner on March 31st at 5 o’clock for Evangelist Dean Jackson who will be holding the spring revival at the church March 30th to April 5th at 7 p.m. each evening.

Debby Hall made the motion to adjourn the meeting and Miller seconded the motion.

Those attending were Donna Miller, Debbie Hall, Shirley Ruggles, Karen Dingess, Rosemary Adams, Diana Brewster, Mary Jane and Alfreda Burns, Debra Secrist, Brenda Adams, Sandy Ray, Sharon Lowe and Peggy Farmer.
