CHAPMANVILLE — Morgan County and Central Greenbrier have advanced to the semifinals in this week’s

11-12-year-old State Little League Tournament at Chapmanville.

Morgan County got past Martinsburg, 8-2, in Monday night’s first state quarterfinal game, while Central Greenbrier was a 6-2 winner over Summersville in the nightcap.

Morgan County (2-1), the Pool D runner-ups to Worthington Parkersburg, is scheduled to play Central Greenbrier (3-0), the Pool B champions, on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in one of the two state semifinals at Chapmanville’s Tracy Vickers Field.

Martinsburg, which had won Pool A, closed out the state tournament with a 3-1 record. Martinsburg had won 12-1, 9-4 and 5-1 in pool play action.

Summersville, the Pool C runner-ups, finished with a 3-1 mark. Summersville had won 8-2 over Beckley and 5-2 over Huntington League 3 in pool play and had lost 17-1 to unbeaten Hurricane.

Action was scheduled to continue on Tuesday with two more state quarterfinal games as Pool C winner Hurricane (3-0) played Pool B runner-up Milton (1-1) and Pool D winner Worthington Parkersburg (2-0) battling it out against Pool A runner-up Bridgeport (2-1).

West Virginia Teen Idol winner Shana Nelson was scheduled to sing the National Anthem on Tuesday night.

The Hurricane/Milton winner is set to battle with the Worthington/Bridgeport winner on Wednesday at 8 p.m. in the other semifinal.

The two semifinal winners are slated to play in Thursday’s State Little League Championship Game at 6 p.m. at Tracy Vickers Field.

The Madison and Mullens All-Stars — the two area representatives in the state tournament — were both ousted on Sunday in pool play as each team had 0-2 records.

Madison lost a pair of nail-biting 6-5 games — one to Worthington and the other to Mogan County. Mullens was beaten 10-0 by Milton and 5-0 by Central Greenbrier.
