GOODY, Ky. – The Tug Valley Chamber of Commerce held its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday at the Steakhouse at Goody, Ky. on Tuesday.
The meeting is normally held on Mondays, however because October 14 was Columbus Day, the meeting was postponed by one day.
The TVCC board members appointed Travis Booten to replace Sherrie Holler who recently moved. Booten, who works for B, B & T, will take the vacant seat. Holler also worked for the bank.
The Chamber also appointed Greg Jessie to the Williamson Fireman’s Civil Service Commission. That commission has three members. One is appointed by the mayor, one by an union affiliation and one by the local chamber of commerce.
Chamber Director Natalie Young announced that Bruce Curry will present at a meeting on November 12 at 7 p.m. on the Entrepreneur Program.
Young also said that the TVCC is scheduled to tour the W.Va. State Police Academy in Institute on October 29.
Young also gave the TVCC membership a re-cap of the recent Coal Dust Run which had nearly 400 participants.
She also announced that this Saturday the Tug Valley Road Runners Club will be sponsoring The Killer 5-K race in West Williamson. The race/walk will start at 6 p.m. at the Williamson Fieldhouse and the route will run through the West End cemetery. There may be zombies or other creatures lurking in the vicinity of the cemetery.
Runners can pre-register at the Coal House until Friday for a $20 entry fee. If they wait until Saturday the fee will be $35. Participants may also get more information on Facebook or at the TVRRC’s web-page.
Each of the paid runners will get a T-shirt and medal for finishing.
Young also encouraged members to attend the Hatfield-McCoy Festival planning committee meeting that will be held in Matewan on October 17 at City Hall starting at 5:30 p.m.
The next TVCC meeting will be hosted by Williamson ARH on Monday, November 4 at 12 noon. Dr. Angel Justice, a family physician originally from the Phelps, Ky. area will be the guest speaker. The meeting will take place in the Administrative Conference Room on the first floor of ARH. (It is the third door on the right after going persons go through the main entrance of the hospital.)
