Residents of South Man detained a young male trying to make entry to a neighboring home on Thurs., Oct. 4.
According to the complaint, Gary Reed Nickerson, 20, of Omar, was observed by an eye-witness trying to gain entry into a neighbor’s house. Together, neighbors asked Nickerson to wait until police arrived but he became belligerent and allegedly took a swing a neighbor. The neighbor defended himself and subdued Nickerson. When Man Chief of Police W. David Walls arrived, he detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on the accused. Nickerson explained to Officer Walls that he “had been partying at a female’s residence when he laid down in bed and fell asleep.” Nickerson said when he awoke, he was on someone’s porch and “they were beating the (expletive deleted) out of him.”
The eyewitnesses all stated that Nickerson took swing at the detaining neighbor and the neighbor only defended himself.
A check with the Department of Motor Vehicles revealed that Nickerson was underage and he registered a BAC of .148. Nickerson admitted to drinking beer.
Walls noted that while Nickerson fell asleep sitting upright in the chair as he was being processed.
Nickerson was charged with battery, attempted daytime burglary, underage consumption (beer), public intoxication and assault. His bail was set at $7,500.

• Mark Anthony Ellis, 22, was booked on Oct. 24 by the Logan County Sheriff’s Department for motor vehicle inspection violation, registration violation, no insurance, DUI (1st offense), failure to stop/yield for emergency vehicle and driving while suspended/revoked non DUI. His bail was set at $2,500.
