West Virginia State Police were recently dispatched by Logan 911 to a burglary in progress in the Stollings area. A criminal complaint was filed in the Magistrate Court of Logan County to document the incident. Criminal complaints are public information and are accusations. Defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

When the officer arrived, he found Fredrick M. Fortner, 50, of Logan, sitting on the couch in the victim’s residence. The complainant advised the officer he had gotten a call from a neighbor saying someone was in the victim’s house. The house belonged to the complainant’s uncle, who was in the hospital. The complainant came to the residence, where he found Fortner attempting to steal tools valued at approximately $2,000, confronted him and kept him until law enforcement arrived.

In a recorded statement taken after Fortner was arrested and transported to the Logan Detachment, Fortner admitted several times he did not have permission to be inside the residence.

Fortner faces charges of burglary night time and attempt to commit a felony.
