PINEVILLE, W.Va. — Cliffs Natural Resources is making contributions in excess of $60,000 to food banks that provide meals for those in need in communities where it has operations.
“Sadly, people are finding themselves stretched financially and turning to local food banks to feed their families” said Raga Elim, Cliffs’ vice president of corporate and government affairs. “Cliffs is pleased it is able to provide assistance to organizations that help families in our local communities.”
Locally, contributions by The Cliffs Foundation will provide more than 15,000 meals. Food banks receiving donations from Cliffs are:
- The Itmann Food Bank, Mullens, $3,000
- The Oceana Church of God’s Good Samaritan Food Bank, Oceana, $3,000
- The Hungry Lamb Food Initiative, Logan, $2,500
- The Five Loaves and Two Fishes Foodbank, Kimball, $3,000
“Food banks are coping with increasing demands for the basic necessities that they provide,” said Jim Kosowski, District Manager of Public Affairs for Cliffs North American Coal. ”The assistance that Cliffs provides to meet the basic needs of those who are worst off in our communities is especially important during the holiday season.”
Contributions will be distributed to the food banks by the end of the year.
