DELBARTON – A 57-year-old Mingo County man was killed Saturday in an all-terrain vehicle accident.


The single-vehicle accident occurred at approximately 9:40 p.m., near the intersection of State Road 65 and Hell Creek Road just north of Delbarton, said West Virginia State Police Trooper D. M. Williamson of the Williamson detachment, who identified the victim as Johnny Thompson of Delbarton.


Thompson was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.


The victim was not wearing a helmet and sustained fatal injuries from the crash, according to the state police accident report.


Thompson was the son of the late Fred Thompson Jr. and is survived by his mother, Beulah “Boots” Thompson, his wife, Kathy Hall Thompson and two sons, Jason Thompson and J.D. Thompson.


Thompson was a coal miner who was employed by Cliffs Logan County Coal.
