WVSP cracks down during Memorial Weekend

The West Virginia State Police recently committed to a new relationship with law enforcement from Ky. and Ohio: a border to border Click it or Ticket mobilization. The goal of those involved was to see seat belt usage rise to 90 percent before June 1.

Over Memorial Day Weekend, the officers put their new promise to test and cracked down on motorists who refused to “click it.”

The WVSP reported the following activity during 2014 Memorial Day Weekend:

— Fatal Crashes: 3

— Fatalities: 3

— Fatalities with Seat Belt: 1

— Alcohol Related Crashes: 6

Total Collisions: 63

— DUI Arrests: 62

— Speeding Citations: 1868

— Seat Belt Citations: 1162

— Seat Belt Warnings: 733

— Child Restraint Citations: 47

— Child Restraint Warnings: 41

— Motorist Assists: 546
