MUD FORK — The 2014 Logan County Substance Abuse Prevention Summit will return to the region Thursday, June 26, at The Word of Life Church at Mud Fork. This summit is a production of the PIECES coalition.
The PEICES Coalition began several years ago in Logan County when a large group of law enforcement, community leaders, volunteers and educators began meeting to see what could be done to educate the public about the dangers of substance abuse and to see how they could work towards drug prevention — especially among young people. PIECES stands for Prevention Is Everybody’s Concern Especially Schools.
The annual drug summits have been a part of PEICES activities since then, offering the latest in information about substance abuse and prevention to professionals and the community. Jeremy Farley of PIECES said this year’s summit will feature guest speakers and a mix of ideas and topics including overdoses as well as looking at programs that have worked in urban environments and modifying them to see if they would be of benefit in rural areas.
“We will also do a panel and have a town hall discussion,” he said.
Registration for the summit is from 8:30-9 a.m. and presentations begin at 9 a.m. and run to 5 p.m. To register for the event, RSVP Trish Caldwell at 304-792-8690.
Keynote speaker will be WV Senator Dr. Ron Stollings.
Everyone is welcome and the event is free of charge. Complimentary snacks and lunch will be provided to participants.
Resource and information will be available courtesy of informational booths set up at the event.
The Word of Life Church is located at 518 Mud Fork Road.
