Youth on the Perry County 4-H Avian teams have been meeting throughout the entire summer months working on judging chickens, grading eggs and the quick recall in poultry science. It paid off big time this week at the State 4-H Competition held annually at the KENTUCKY STATE FAIR!

The team members compete in two divisions depending upon their age: juniors are 9 -13 and seniors are 14-19. Each youth scores an individual score and a composite team score. State team members are determined by the individual scores.

Junior team members took 1st place blue and 2nd place red ribbons in both events. Senior members placed second in the state in the Avian Bowl competition, with Taylor Williams placing third place individually, securing her place on the KY 4-H Avian Bowl team for National competition. Senior members also individually placed first, second, and third on the state team!

Stacie Fugate placed the highest score in the state, Kaytlin Eversole was 2nd and Taylor Williams, 3rd. Senior Avian Bowl coach is the 2013 Avian champion, Hannah Whitaker. Taylor is choosing to compete nationally on the Avian Bowl team and gives her team place to fifth place Ashley Eversole.

National Competition will take place at the International Livestock Show in November in Louisville.
