Many news outlets have reported that WV 3 Mine, located near Madison Creek and owned by Kentucky Fuels, has been idled due to an “imminent harm cessation” order issued by the Department of Environmental Protection.
Reports of black water leaking into a ditch spawned an investigation by the DEP in which they reportedly found that the mine had a pit so full of water that the overflow was being pumped into a sediment ditch.
Due to the holiday weekend, no DEP representatives were available for further information. The Logan Banner is continuing to follow this developing story and will have more information as it is made available. Visit loganbanner.com to find updates and to follow breaking news.
