HUNTINGTON – The RESA 2 Regional Council has announced a scholarship program honoring longtime member and former Chairperson Phyllis Adkins from Logan County.
The Phyllis Adkins Honorary Scholarship will be available to a high school senior selected each year from applicants in Cabell, Lincoln, Logan, Mason, Mingo, and Wayne Counties. It will provide $1,000 per semester to the recipient and will begin with the 2014-2015 school year. The program is funded through private donations.
“Phyllis Adkins has demonstrated a lifelong dedication to improving both the education and the lives of the students in RESA 2,” Executive Director Dr. Dee Cockrille said. “The Regional Council, with this action, hopes to inspire students to higher achievement by providing tangible support.”
Adkins, a longtime member of the Logan County Board of Education and a member of the RESA 2 Regional Council for 17 years, was honored at the August 20 meeting of the RESA 2 Regional Council for her tireless work on behalf of the children of Logan County and RESA 2.
Any senior interested in applying can obtain an application from his or her guidance counselor or by contacting the RESA office at 304-529-6205.
