France awarded scholarship

The Board of Trustees of the Mensa Education and Research Foundation recently announced that Casey Mackenzie France of Logan has been awarded the Diana Mossip Memorial Scholarship.
This year, over 9,400 applications were submitted for 176 awards totaling more than $78,000.
France is a 2013 Summa Cum Laude graduate of Logan High School, and is currently attending Concord University in Athens. He was also awarded the Tug Valley Mining Institute Scholarship, the West Virginia Elks Association Most Valuable Student Scholarship, the EQT Student of Excellence Scholarship, and the PROMISE Scholarship.
France was selected by the Herald-Dispatch as one of their 2013 Star Students. Twenty-five students from the Tri-State were selected to be featured in the newspaper’s special graduation section. Students that were recognized as Star Students demonstrated the ability to juggle dozens of activities while excelling academically; developed talents in several spheres; gave to their communities and overcame challenges to beat the odds.
While attending LHS, France won many awards at Logan County Math Field Day, RESA II Math Field Day, and West Virginia State Math Field Day. During his senior year he won awards at the Logan County Academic Challenge Games, Regional Academic Challenge Games, SCORES award for Math 3, and SCORES Most Outstanding Student Scholarship.
France attended the West Virginia Governor’s Honors Academy, served as a marshal at West Virginia Governor Earl Ray Tomblin’s Inauguration, and served as a page for the West Virginia Legislature. He attended Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College, and completed 35 college hours during his senior year.
France was a member of the National Honor Society, MENSA, Spanish Club, Prayer Club, Student Government, Vice-President of Teens Against Alcohol and Drugs, and President of his Freshman and Sophomore Class.
He is the son of Freddie and Kimberly France of Logan, and the grandson of Eloise and Montie Messer of Logan and Jackie France of Mt. Gay.
