“As sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing; and yet possessing all things.” (2 Corinthians 6:10)
In his letter to the believers at Corinth, the apostle Paul defended his ministry, sharing with them the hardships he had suffered for the cause of Christ. He encouraged them not to put any stumbling blocks in anyone’s path so that their ministry would not be discredited. They were to endure whatever came their way with Christlike qualities that would not dishonor the Lord.
Even though they were going through times of sorrow, they wold rejoice. They might be poor in the eyes of the world, but many were made rich because they had shared the good news of the gospel with them. They might have nothing of earthly value but becuase they had the Lord in their hearts and lives, they had everything.
It is important that we have our priorities in the right place. Jesus asked an important question that we would do well to consider. “What shall it profit a man if he gain the whole world and lose his soul?” (Mark 8:36) We are encouraged to “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness; and all these things will be added unto you.” (Matthew 7:33) If we take the Lord at His word, we will not have to worry about what we eat, drink, or wear. Our physical needs will be met. When we trust Him to do as He has promised, we will not be disappointed. We praise Him that we have found Him to be faithful. Thank you, Lord.
Even when we are experiencing sorrow,
We can still rejoice,
And when we are poor by earthly standards,
To share the good news should be our choice.
And even if we have nothing of value,
When we have Christ we have everything,
And we enrich the lives of others,
When Christ to them we bring.
Dear Lord, May we rejoice in the knowledge that when we have You in our hearts, we have everything. In Jesus holy name we pray. A-men.
