“O Let Not the oppressed return ashamed: let the poor and needy praise thy name.” (Psalm 74:21)
As we look at our world today we are constantly made aware of the poor and needy who inhabit the earth, who need help of those who have been blessed to have food and clothing. The Lord made provision for the poor and stranger as He told Moses that when His people reap the harvest of their land, they shall not wholly reap the corners of their field, neither shall they gather the gleanings of their harvest. And they shall not glean their vineyard, nor gather every grape of their vineyard, but would leave them for the poor and stranger.” (Leviticus 19:9-10)
We are also reminded in the New Testament that we are not to be forgetful to entertain strangers, for some have entertained angels without realizing it.” (Hebrews 13:2) May we keep this in mind when we see those on the streets who are asking for help.
The Lord shared with Moses that the poor and needy should praise His name. He wants us to trust Him, to depend on Him even when we are having a difficult time in this life. The Lord has not promised His children that we would not have problems and sorrow in this world. That is part of what we must endure while we live, but the good news is the promise that He “will never leave us nor forsake us.” (Hebrews 13:5)
We can also take comfort in John’s words as he saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, and he heard a loud voice from the throne saying. “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with me, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself will be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain, for the former things are passed away.” For the Christian the best is yet to come. Praise God!
The Word of God brings hope to the Christians,
Of what the future will hold,
For those who have been obedient to Him,
And find the street of the city was pure gold
The Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple,
In the new Jerusalem,
And those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of Life,
Will dwell there with Almighty God
Dear Father, We do praise you that your Word reveals the blessings that will come to those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of Life. In Jesus holy name we pray. Amen.
