“For that ye ought to say, if the Lord will, we shall live, and do this or that.” (James 4:15)

In speaking of faith, James revealed that it produces dependence on God. Without the Lord, we can do nothing. Only through him are we able to do that which He has called us to do.

James also makes known to us that every decision we make should be based on what the Lord would desire for us. He warned us about making plans without taking into consideration what God has planned for us. He revealed that we might decide that today or tomorrow, we may go to a certain place for a year or so and buy and sell. Since we do not know what tomorrow may bring, it would be better if we said, “If the Lord will, we shall live and do this or that.” By doing this, we will put everything in God’s hands, which is as it should be.

Seeking God’s will for our lives should be the desire of every Christian. We should want to do what He would have us do. What a difference it would make if we determined that we would not make any decision without first praying about it.

There is a book entitled “In His Steps,” which tells the story of a town whose citizens decided they would not do anything without first asking God what he would have them do. The impact this had on the town gave the reader much food for thought. May we also seek God’s will as we go about our daily lives. We will be blessed if we do.

Poem:

Before we make decisions,

We should seek the Lord’s will,

And let our actions be determined,

By what God does reveal.

Because he has a plan,

For every person’s life.

If we seek his will,

We will avoid much strife.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, May I seek your will for each decision I am called on to make, because you know what is best for me. In Jesus name I pray. A-men.
