“And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all.” (Acts 4:33)
That the coming of the Holy Spirit made a difference in the lives of the early believers is evident as we read of the changes that took place. They were of one heart and mind and no one claimed that the things he possessed was his own, but willingly shared everything they had. With great power, they testified to the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and much grace was upon them all.
As we read of their willingness to share everything they had with their fellow Christians, we know that only God at work in their lives could have accomplished this miracle. We think of our own Christian experience and wonder if we would be willing to sell our houses and land and give the proceeds to be distributed to those who had need.
The Lord makes known to us that He expects us to be concerned for those who have special needs: the hungry, the thirsty, the stranger, the naked, the sick and those in prison. (Matthew 25:35-37) He ha blessed us with material possessions in order for us to be able to reach out to those who have need. We are told to work with our hands doing something useful so that we will have something to share with those who have need. (Ephesians 4:28)
The grace of God was upon those who had a powerful testimony about the resurrection of Jesus Christ for they had personally seen Him ascend up into heaven. We should also be able to witness to the lost about the difference the risen Saviour has made in our lives. As we share the good news, may we also back up our profession of faith with good deeds. That will be pleasing to our Lord.
With great power the apostles witnessed,
About the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
And the Christians responded with loving deeds,
Sharing with each other which sufficed,
May we also tell the world,
What Christ has done in our lives,
And help those who have need around us,
For He calls us to do this we realize.
Dear Father, We praise you and thank you that you open our eyes to the needs of others and expect us to respond to their needs. May we be faithful to your leading. In Jesus name we pray. A-men.
