Have you ever had a dream? Of course you have. I think we all have at some point in our lives. I want to write this to encourage you to dream, continue to dream, or to dream again. The Bible says in Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD,” plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” This scripture leads me to believe that God has a purpose and a divine plan for each of us. I truly believe that it was by no means an accident or happenstance that you are here today; that you were born on your birthday at the exact moment that God wanted to place you on the earth.

God does not make mistakes. However, life can have a way of beating you down and even crushing or completely killing your dreams. In Jeremiah it also says that God knew us before we were even created. So, if God knew us and has plans for us, do you think that just maybe our dreams and our desires were put there by our Heavenly Father Himself? It says in Proverbs 16:3 “Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” With this being said, I truly believe that if we live to serve the Lord and we live to please Him and trust Him that He will help make our dreams come true. I also love this scripture taken from Psalms 37:4 “Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”

Please do not mistake me by thinking that I believe that God gives us whatever we want. I want to make that clear. We have to remember that just as Jesus prayed that God’s will be done, that we too must pray for His perfect will to be done in our lives. Our dreams must line up with the word of God, because God’s perfect will can be found in His word.

Now we have to ask ourselves, “What is God’s plan for me?” and the most important question that I want you to ask yourself is, “What is my dream?” Whatever your dream is I pray that you do not let anyone discourage you from pursuing it. No matter what your dream is, no matter how old you are, or what your gender or race is. If it is your dream then it is worth the time and the effort to go after it! You have to realize that everyone is going to have haters! Let them hate, let them try to stop you but, no matter what, please, do not let them win. Never quit dreaming. Do not give anyone that much power over you.

On another note I want to ask you to please not be that person who can crush the dreams of others. We have power in our words. A very small negative statement can be just enough to crush a dream or to cause a dreamer to stop dreaming. Remember that it says in Proverbs 18:21 “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” So, with our words we can encourage a dream or give life so to speak to that dream. However, with our words we can also destroy a dream or even bring death to it. If words can have that much power, imagine how much your actions could do in a negative or positive way.

I love to watch Jesse Duplantis on television and he always starts his program with these words, “What is your dream and let nothing hold you back!” There was a time that I would sit and think, “I don’t have a dream, Lord.” I was one of many who had my dream crushed. I know what that feels like and that is one of the reasons that I am writing about it today. However, I had the Lord to awaken my dream.

All my life I have wanted to be a writer, that is my dream. But life had crushed that dream for me. Now look what God has done for me. I have this column, which is the beginning of my dream come true, and I want to use it to encourage others. I pray to inspire you, to make you think and to dream again. I have learned to do that and God has heard and answered my prayer or this column would not be published. I am dreaming big!

As Jesse Duplantis says, I now say to you, “What is your dream and let nothing hold you back!” Remember that the Bible says in Ephesians 3:20, “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.” So, dream big, let nothing stand in your way, and refuse to be deterred from your dream!
