The pairings have been set for the 11-12-year-old Little League State Tournament, which is scheduled to begin Sunday at the South Charleston Little League Field.
Southern West Virginia will be represented by Madison and Pineville from District 2.
The Madison All-Stars advanced to state with last week’s 2-1 victory over Chapmanville at the Madison City Park. Pineville also moved on with a 10-4 semifinal victory over the Man All-Stars.
Madison has been placed in the three-team Pool D with Fairmont and Huntington.
Pineville is in Pool B with Bridgeport and Elkins.
Pool A is made up of four teams – Bi-State, St. Albans, Tygarts Valley and host South Charleston.
The Pool C teams are Barboursville, Beckley Blue, Martinsburg and Shady Spring.
Action begins on Sunday at 1 p.m. with a Pool A game between Bi-State and St. Albans. Then at 3 p.m., Tygarts Valley is set to play South Charleston. A Pool B contest between Bridgeport and Elkins is then set to be played at 5 p.m.
Also on Sunday at 1 p.m. on Field 2, Barboursville and Beckley Blue take on each other in a 1 p.m. Pool C game. At 1 p.m., Martinsburg squares off with Shady Spring. The 5 p.m. game has Madison battling it out against Fairmont.
On Monday, the state tourney pool play continues as Bi-State takes on South Charleston at 4 p.m. in a Pool A matchup. The 6 p.m. game has St. Albans facing off against Tygarts Valley. Then at 8 p.m., Bridgeport is set to take on Pineville.
On the adjacent field, Barboursville squares off with Shady Spring at 4 p.m. and the Beckley Blue team locks horns with Martinsburg at 6 p.m. in a pair of Pool C contests. The 8 p.m. nightcap has Madison taking on Huntington at 8 p.m.
On Tuesday, pool play is scheduled to conclude with six more games.
At 4 p.m., Bi-State plays Tygarts Valley. The other 4 p.m. game on the next-door field has South Charleston taking on St. Albans.
The two 6 p.m. contests have Barboursville squaring off with Martinsburg and Shady Spring taking on the Beckley Blue team.
At 8 p.m., Elkins faces off with Pineville in a Pool B game. The last game has Fairmont and Huntington playing each other at 8 p.m. on Field 2.
The single-elimination tournament will then begin on Wednesday with the four quarterfinal contests. The two winners then play each other in the state semifinals next Thursday night.
Next Friday, the two semifinal winners will meet in the 11-12-year-old state championship game. The state winner moves on to play in the Southeast Regionals in Warner Robins, Ga., Aug. 1-9.
The Southeast Regionals are made up of the state champions from West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Alabama.
Other national Little League regional sites are to be played in: Indianapolis (Central, Aug. 2-10); Bristol, Conn. (East, Aug. 2-11); Waco, Texas (Southwest, Aug. 2-8); and San Bernardino, Calif. (West, Aug. 2-10).
Regional winners will then meet with advancing teams from across the globe in the Little League World Series, Aug. 15-22 at Williamsport, Pa.
Several teams head to the 11-12 state tourney with unbeaten records.
Barboursville, a state powerhouse, is 5-0. In the District 1 tourney, Barboursville recorded wins over: Hite-Sanders (22-1); Huntington (8-3); Ona (25-0); Ceredo-Kenova (13-3); and Huntington again (10-3) in the finals.
The Beckley Blue team is 6-0 going into state. Beckley notched wins in the District 4 tourney over: Hinton (23-0); Upper Kanawha Valley (26-1); Central Greenbrier (16-6); Bluefield (10-0); Princeton (16-4); and Sophia (11-1).
* In the 9-10-year-old Little League State Tournament at Bridgeport Charleston Central was set to take on Barboursville on Thursday night in one of the two quarterfinal games. Bridgeport was set to face off with Moorefield in another quarterfinal. C-K and Mullens and Fairmont vs. Hedgesville were the other two quarterfinal matchups.
The semifinals are Friday at 7:30 p.m. with the championship game to follow on Saturday.
