CHAPMANVILLE — There will be no father vs. son Hatcher vs. Hatcher game this basketball season.

At least that’s according to the 2013-14 high school basketball schedule, which was released recently by Chapmanville Regional High School and posted on the WVSSAC website.

A quick scan of this year’s Chapmanville basketball schedule shows no Logan game.

Chapmanville last played the Wildcats on the hardwood during the 2010-11 season, losing 67-60 on a snowy night in Tiger Town and later falling 64-43 at Logan’s Willie Akers Arena.

The basketball and baseball series were then discontinued at the conclusion of the school year amid tensions between the two programs.

There had been talk of Logan and Chapmanville resuming the baseball series for 2014 as both Logan coach Roger Gertz and Tigers’ baseball coach Eric Ellis seemed to be in agreement with bringing it back.

Then there had been further talk about the basketball series and its status.

But it looks like there will be no game.

Chapmanville hired Allan Hatcher last year as it’s new basketball coach. Hatcher, a former state championship coach at Williamson and also the coach of a series of schools in Kentucky, is the father of Logan longtime basketball coach Mark Hatcher, who has guided the Wildcats to state championships in 2005 and 2010 and several state tournament appearances.

While the Logan-Chapmanville baseball series has had some parity over the years, the basketball series between the two schools has been grossly one-sided. When the series was resumed in 2002 and played until 2011, Logan beat Chapmanville 25 straight times with many of those games being blowouts.

Allan Hatcher returns for his second year with the Tigers this season. Last year, Chapmanville was 14-10, falling 38-35 to Tolsia in the Class AA sectional tournament at Logan.

Gone from the team are a pair of graduated seniors — leading scorer Mackenzie Martin (20.8 ppg) and guard Mike Hurst (7.4). Chapmanville does return 6-4 forward Kenny Plumley, a senior, who averaged 13.1 points a game last year.

The Tigers’ 2013-14 schedule will be a difficult one as Chapmanville has home-and-homes with Cardinal Conference teams Mingo Central, Tolsia, Poca, Sissonville, Herbert Hoover, Wayne and Scott.

One of the highlights to Chapmanville’s schedule is a Dec. 21 noon clash with North Marion in the Hoops Classic at the Charleston Civic Center — the home of the state tournament.

The Tigers open the season Dec. 14 at home against Liberty Raleigh in the Nationwide Classic at Chapmanville’s Danny Godby Gymnasium.

Chapmanville hosts the annual Bob Runyon Memorial Holiday Tournament Dec. 27-28 over Christmas break and has non-conference home-and-homes with county rival Man and Class AAA Lincoln County.

Chapmanville went 4-1 last season over Man and Lincoln County, downing the Class A Hillbillies three times (94-44, 77-51 and 74-47) and splitting with the Panthers (51-43 loss, 68-36 win).

Gone from the schedule is Nicholas County. The Tigers split with the Grizzlies last season.
