The girls’ high school basketball season tips off this week for Logan County teams.

Logan was originally scheduled to open the season this Tuesday at Man but the game was cancelled due to mutual agreement between the two schools, Logan coach Kevin Gertz said. The two teams were set to play again later in the season at Logan but that game has also been called off.
Gertz said Logan is looking for two games to replace Man on the schedule.
The LHS Lady Cats are coming off last year’s 17-10 season and Class AAA state runner-up finish. Logan lost 58-34 in last year’s state championship game to Parkersburg South at the Charleston Civic Center.
With many players back including all-state performers Shayna Gore and Monica Mitchell, Logan is expected to have another successful season and challenge again for the state crown.
Chapmanville’s girls were 13-12 last season and was hit hard by graduation. Returning starters Kristen DesRocher and Hillary Hainer are back to lead the way.
The Man girls only have nine players on its roster.
The Lady Billies were 15-11 last season and played in the Class A state tournament. Man, however, lost all-time leading scorer and all-state player Summer Sword due to graduation.
Several Man players declined to play basketball this season further making the Lady Billies’ already uphill challenge even greater this winter.
Morgan Conn and Mika McCoy are expected to lead the team this year.
The high school boys’ season begins the following week.
Logan’s boys open Dec. 12 at Hurricane.
The Chapmanville boys open Dec. 14 against Liberty Raleigh in the inaugural Nationwide Classic at CRHS.
The Man High School boys are set to open Dec. 17 at home against Mount View.
