Lady Tigers suffer first conference loss at Hoover

FALLING ROCK — The Chapmanville Regional High School girls’ basketball team suffered its first loss in Cardinal Conference play with Friday night’s 48-40 defeat at Herbert Hoover at the HHHS gym in Falling Rock.
Chapmanville fell to 9-5 overall and 7-1 in the league with the loss.
Surprising Herbert Hoover improved to 8-1 and won its seventh straight game.
The Huskies won it in crunch time as Caroline Thornburg netted four free throws in the final two minutes of play. She had 14 points to lead Hoover.
Bailey Aab added 13 points and eight rebounds for the winners.
Shian Meeks had 11 points to lead Chapmanville. Abby Marcum tallied eight points, while Kristin DesRocher had seven, Lexi Martin five, NeNe Osborne four, Hillary Hainer three and Autumn Blankenship two.
The Lady Tigers led 12-4 after one quarter and 18-15 at the half in the low-scoring game but fell behind 34-29 after three. Herbert Hoover then outscored CRHS 14-8 in the fourth.
Chapmanville is scheduled to play Tuesday night at Sherman and then host the Poca Dots on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
