CHAPMANVILLE — The Chapmanville Regional High School girls’ basketball team took No. 8-ranked Herbert Hoover to the brink on Wednesday night at home before falling 68-59 to the Huskies in overtime at Chapmanville’s Danny Godby Gymnasium.

Herbert Hoover, which swept the season series with Chapmanville, remained in first place in the Cardinal Conference standings at 15-3 overall and 10-1 in the league.

The Lady Tigers, in fourth place in the conference, fell to 12-7, 9-3.

Bailey Aab tallied seven of her 10 points in overtime to lead Herbert Hoover. Caroline Thornburg poured in 21 points to pace the Huskies.

The Lady Tigers were outscored 11-2 in the four-minute extra period.

Hoover also got 13 points from Hannah King.

Senior Kristin DesRocher netted a game-high 28 points to lead Chapmanville. Shian Meeks had 10 points for the Lady Tigers.

Chapmanville was scheduled to get back into action on Thursday night at home with its Senior Night contest against Mingo Central. The game was in doubt, however, as school was cancelled in Logan County after a snowstorm dumped 6-10 inches of snow to parts of the area.

CRHS is set to play at Sissonville next Tuesday in the regular season finale.

The Lady Tigers are set to face off with Mingo Central, Scott, Tolsia and Wayne in the Class AA sectional tourney, Feb. 24, 26 and 28 at Logan High School’s Willie Akers Arena.
