HARTS — The Harts Middle School boys’ basketball team captured the Black Diamond Conference regular season championship with last Saturday night’s 37-36 win at Poca over the Dots.
Harts improved to 11-1 on the season with the victory.
Kyle Browning led the Lions with 19 points and he hit 3-for-6 of his shots from 3-point range.
Drew Williamson netted 14 points and had 11 rebounds to record a double-double.
Ty Sturm had two points.
C.J. Dalton had three steals on the night.
Poca led 5-4 after one quarter and 15-12 at the half before Harts outscored the Dots 13-8 in the third to grab a 25-23 lead. Poca outpointed Harts 13-12 in the fourth.
Harts Middle routed Lincoln County rival Hamlin 50-20 last Thursday night at home.
The Lions were led by Williamson, who pitched in 13 points and also grabbed five rebounds and had six steals. He was 3-for-4 from 3-point land.
Tucker Dalton added nine points for Harts. Dalton had eight, Browning six, Sturm five and Zack Aldridge four. Hunter Brumfield had three and Nick Eldridge and Carson Toney had one point apiece.
Browning added three steals. Nick Eldridge pulled down five boards.
The Lions led 23-5 after one quarter and 26-13 at the half. Harts held Hamlin scoreless in the third and expanded the lead to 37-13 after three. The Lions had a 13-7 edge in the fourth period.
HMS was slated to host Kermit on Monday. Harts plays at Man on Wednesday.
Harts is ranked No. 1 for the upcoming Black Diamond Conference tourney. Poca is second and Chapmanville Middle School third. CMS has split with Harts this season in two meetings.
